The 2023 Betfred Super League and NRL seasons are officially underway. Here is a look at how England stars got on during the latest round of fixtures.
Dom Young starred in Newcastle Knight’s 14-12 win at Wests Tigers in Round Two of the NRL. The England winger scored two tries for the Knights, who now sit 11th in the table.
It was defeat for Elliott Whitehead and the Canberra Raiders against the Dolphins, but it was victory for the Brisbane Broncos as Herbie Farnworth claimed an assist in their 28-16 victory against the North Queensland Cowboys.
Josh Hodgson’s Parramatta Eels side went down 26-30 at home to the Cronulla Sharks.
In Betfred Super League, Michael Mcilorum played the full 80 minutes for Catalans Dragons as they defeated Wigan Warriors 18-10 at the DW Stadium. The England hooker made 36 tackles, which was the second highest made by any Catalans player after Paul Seguier’s 37.
Kai Pearce-Paul, Mike Cooper and Liam Farrell all featured in opposition to the Dragons, with the latter also registering 36 tackles. England Knights international Harry Smith also got on the scoresheet for the Warriors.
Jonny Lomax scored for Champions St Helens in their 20-12 defeat at Leigh Leopards. Lomax also made 154 metres, just one metre short of teammate Tommy Makinson’s 155 - the highest of any St Helens player.
Fellow England stars Jack Welsby, Morgan Knowles, Alex Walmsley, and Matty Lees all also featured for the Saints, with the latter making 29 tackles.
England Knights international Harry Newman marked his long-awaited comeback with a try as Leeds Rhinos beat Wakefield Trinity 26-0.
George Williams played the full 80 minutes as Warrington defeated Hull KR 18-10. Williams shone throughout the win and alongside claiming one try assist, he also made an impressive 220 metres.
England forward Chris Hill impressed in Huddersfield Giants’ 36-6 win against Castleford. The veteran prop registered 30 tackles and 142 metres in just 51 minutes.
It was delighted for Marc Sneyd and Andy Ackers as Salford Red Devils produced the performance of the round to win 60-14 at Hull FC. It was a memorable afternoon for Sneyd, who registered his 1000th career goal, scored his second try of the season and claimed two try assists, whilst hooker Ackers made 24 tackles - the second highest registered by a Red Devils player after Shane Wright.
