Jack Smith rejoins the Full-Time Squad in 2022 ahead of his 33rd birthday in February. He was previously in the squad for two seasons in 2016-17 – and inspired many with his response to being shot through the chest in 2010 by a Taliban sniper in Sangin, Afghanistan, during his years as a Royal Marine Commando.
He was therefore a perfect choice as ambassador for the Lead the Game project launched in the autumn of 2020 between the RFL and the UK Armed Forces Rugby League to offer veterans a structured pathway towards match officiating.
Jack’s refereeing honours include being appointed touch judge in the Four Nations series in 2016 and for the 2017, 2020 and 2021 Challenge Cup Finals, as well as the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford in 2021. His Rugby League hero is the great Billy Boston.
