Learning Disability Super League ready for kick off

Learning Disability Super League ready for kick off

The Learning Disability Super League (LDSL) will return this weekend (April 22/23) with the first Festival of 2023 being split over two regions.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation will host the first event of the year on Saturday (April 22), before Wigan Warriors welcome teams to the Robin Park Arena on Sunday (April 23) with each Festival including 15 clubs entering a combined 30 teams across the weekend.

The Learning Disability Super League was launched in partnership with Community Integrated Care, one of the UK’s largest and most successful social care charities, in 2019. The project was memorably launched at Betfred Super League’s Magic Weekend at Anfield later that year and has continued to give incredible Rugby League opportunities to registered participants.

Since being established, the LDSL has grown significantly and there are now over 300 players registered to represent their local Club Foundations.

The emphasis at each LDSL event is enjoyment with each Festival being non-competitive and completely inclusive. The activities are delivered with a view to developing the participants skills and confidence while providing new challenges and opportunities.

National Inclusion RL Manager, Chris Godfrey, says:

“Learning Disability Rugby League was developed back in 2018 to ensure people with a learning disability can access and enjoy playing Rugby League and since partnering with Community Integrated Care the offer has gone from strength to strength.

“It is a truly inspirational version of the game, and we are really pleased to have over 300 players registered to play in the Learning Disability Super League this year.

“There will be five LDSL Festivals in 2023 which will be hosted by Club Foundations, before a Finals Day which is scheduled to take place in September.

“We are really looking forward to this weekend’s events and I wish everyone good luck for the season ahead.”
