Betfred Women's Super League | Round 3 Preview

Betfred Women's Super League | Round 3 Preview

Two of the biggest names collide in the Betfred Women’s Super League this weekend when St Helens face off against fierce rivals Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The game, which kicks off at 11:30am on Sunday 11 June, promises to be a great spectacle, with live coverage being provided exclusively by The Sportsman.

Just one point separates the sides in the Group 1 table, with Saints picking up one win from their opening two fixtures, whilst Wigan have earned one win and a draw.

Although Matty Smith’s St Helens side currently sit below Wigan in the division, they will head into the game full of confidence after cruising to a 38-18 victory over Leeds Rhinos at Headingley in front of the Sky Sports cameras last time out.

Wigan, meanwhile, were also victorious in their last outing after defeating Huddersfield Giants 30-20.

A win could move either side to within touching side of league leaders York Valkyrie, who are not in action this week.

St Helens will head into the game as slight favourites, having won the last five meetings between the sides.

Elsewhere, at the bottom of the table Huddersfield Giants host Warrington Wolves in a huge fixture, with two crucial points at stake for either side.

Both sides lost in round two and will be looking to earn their first victories of the season this weekend.

Huddersfield have won the last two meetings between the sides, the last of which was back in September 2021.

In Group 2, the tie of the round takes place at Leigh Sports Village where league leaders Leigh Leopards host second-placed Featherstone Rovers.

A single point is the currently the difference between the sides in the standings, meaning a win for Rovers would see them climb to top spot.

Elsewhere, third-placed Barrow Raiders face off against bottom side Castleford Tigers at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium, whilst Bradford Bulls meet Salford Red Devils at Odsal.

Finally, two fixtures take place in the WSL South this weekend. London Broncos welcome Bedford Tigers, whilst the Army host the Golden Ferns.
