The Sportsman announces bumper day of Betfred Wheelchair Super League coverage

The Sportsman’s 2023 Rugby League coverage will switch to the Betfred Wheelchair Super League on Saturday April 15, when all three fixtures from the competition’s first Central Inclusion round in Birmingham will be streamed live and exclusive.

It will be the first part of a bumper weekend of Rugby League on The Sportsman’s YouTube channel dedicated to the sport, as it will be followed on Sunday April 16 by live coverage of the heavyweight Betfred Women’s Super League clash between York Valkyrie and St Helens.

All six Super League Teams will gather at the University of Birmingham in Edgbaston on April 15 for a bumper day of action - with Leeds Rhinos already setting the pace after consecutive victories over Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors.

The Rhinos, now coached by Wheelchair RL icon James Simpson and including his former England team-mates Nathan Collins, Josh Butler and World Cup captain Tom Halliwell, take on the London Roosters – meaning a clash with their World Cup coach Tom Coyd and his brother Joe, who is a key figure in the Roosters team alongside Lewis King.

That opening clash is followed by a meeting of two of the developing clubs of the Super League as Warrington Wolves take on Hull FC – who are inspired by their father and son duo, Mike and Billy Swainger.

Defending champions Halifax Panthers will close the day with a clash against Wigan Warriors - a repeat of their exhilarating round one game where Wigan pulled off a shock 59-45 victory.

Kick off times for all three Betfred Wheelchair Super League ties can be confirmed as follows.

  • London Roosters v Leeds Rhinos – 12pm
  • Warrington Wolves v Hull FC – 2pm
  • Halifax Panthers v Wigan Warriors – 4pm

The Sportsman will stream all three fixtures on Saturday 15 April and Rugby League fans can catch all the action – live, free and exclusively – on The Sportsman Rugby League YouTube channel from 12pm.
