Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Final Preview: Leeds Rhinos vs St Helens
St Helens and Leeds Rhinos will battle it out to be crowned Betfred Women's Challenge Cup winners for 2022 in a 12pm kick off tomorrow at Elland Road, part of a Triple-Header with the Men's Cup Semi-Finals.
The tie sees two previous winners of the competition going head-to-head as Leeds, winners in both 2018 and 2019, tackle the current cup holders in St Helens - it was their first Cup win in 2021.
This year, Saints have been in incredible form as they have dominated their title defence so far, winning each of their group stage games before wins over Huddersfield Giants and Featherstone Rovers to reach this stage.
The star-studded team have racked up the points but also impressively are yet to concede a single point so far this season, something Leeds are looking to change on Saturday.
Leeds have also thrived in 2022 after the return from injury of several important players, alongside the eye-catching arrival of former Woman of Steel Georgia Roche.
The Rhinos also won all of their group matches before wins over Warrington Wolves and then York City Knights to secure their place at Elland Road.
Coach's Comments:
Lois Forsell (Leeds Rhinos)
"These are the games we want to be playing in. I don't think there are any female rugby players that can say they've played at Elland Road, in their hometown, it's really exiting to be playing in a stadium of this stature. St helens are a good side who like to move the ball about, but we know this year will be different to the Grand Final last year." - Watch full interview here.
Derek Hardman (St Helens)
"It'll be brilliant. It's a great opportunity for the girls and I'm glad they've got the chance to perform on this stage. Both sides have got an incredible talent pool so it's going to be a great game and a great occasion which will be very fitting for a stadium like Elland Road." Watch full interview here.
Player's Thoughts:
Courtney Winfield-Hill (Leeds Rhinos)
"We're really excited to be back in a final, especially at Elland Road. It would be incredible to win it again with some of the terrific players who have come through our academy system since then. Leeds people love their teams and I hope we can entice them to turn out for us on Saturday." - Watch full interview here.
Jodie Cunningham (St Helens)
"It's a big new stadoum for the women - I watched England men play at Elland Road a few years ago and I never would have dreamt we'd have the chance to walk out here and play. Every single time we play Leeds it's always a tough battle and I think whoever handles the occasion better will come out on top." - Watch full interview here.
