The OuRLeague cameras were at the Horsfall Stadium on Saturday where a powerful second half from play-off chasing West Bowling proved too hot of Kells in warm conditions.
A close first half saw Bowling open the score through Jack Milburn but the visitors excellent David Lowery replied moments later. Then, before half-time Kells forced their way over again through promising youngster Clarke Chambers. Ross Gainford goaled both to ensure a 12-6 half-time advantage. It was all change in the second half however as West Bowling flourished.
Logan Simpson put the game on level terms early in the second half and Liam Darville was on the end of another flowing move just before the hour. Harry Williams struck his third goal and Bowling led 18-12. The hosts were having fun in the sun with Lewis Taylor scoring twice, either side of a lovely effort from Darville who first chipped through for Williams to collect and return the ball on the inside. Williams increased his goal tally to five before the end as West Bowling won 34-12.
Elsewhere in Division One Hull Dockers just squeezed past relegated Myton Warriors, Milford went down at home to Ince Rose Bridge, Featherstone Lions were vanquished at Stanningley and Oulton Raiders gave a commanding performance at home to Saddleworth Rangers. Skirlaugh sprung a surprise result on Wigan St Pats in the other Division One game.
Premier Division play-off contenders Wath Brow inflicted defeat on leaders West Hull for only the second time this season thanks to a 24-12 home success while Siddal won 42-20 against Thornhill Trojans on Friday night. Leigh Miners Rangers put on a much-improved performance at Hunslet Club Parkside but the hosts won 18-0 while relegated Egremont Rangers enjoyed a rare success over Rochdale Mayfield. There is a real interesting battle emerging at the foot of the table with one relegation place still to be decided. York Acorn ran impressive winners over Thatto Heath Crusaders - winning 34-24 and are now only a point behind Rochdale Mayfield and Pilkington Recs who suffered a heart-breaking late defeat against Lock Lane.
Heworth enjoyed their promotion party in Division Two, winning 58-12 against Barrow Island, meanwhile Crosfields went about their business at Hunslet Warriors to move into second spot. Fellow Warrington side Woolston Rovers had a comfortable day at Beverley while Dewsbury Celtic and Dewsbury Moor Maroons both enjoyed home success over Wigan st Judes and Bradford Dudley Hill respectively. Over at Normanton a great game saw the Knights take victory 30-24 against fellow play-off contenders Clock Face Miners.
Division Three action began on Thursday night when Waterhead Warriors confirmed their promotion from the competition with a hard fought success at Shaw Cross Sharks. There were narrow home wins for Bentley (over Seaton Rangers) and Millom (over Drighlington) while Leigh East kept up their late play-off charge with an 18-4 success at Hensingham. Division Three winners East Leeds also enjoyed coming out of a tough game against Oldham St Annes with a 29-10 win.
